The greenhouse has been prepped and cleaned out. The first round of onion seeds have been planted in the greenhouse. The garlic is out in the fields waiting for Spring to come. Seed orders have been placed. We get so excited at this time of year thinking of the coming season. We are excited to have you join us again for another great season of farm fresh, locally grown, pesticide, herbicide and chemical free veggies. Receive locally grown, fresh, nutritious, chemical free produce each week throughout the growing season.

What is a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a way of connecting people with the farms ther food is grown on. By purchasing a membership and buying local food, you're putting money into the local economies and investing in natural resources and sustainable industries close to home. Most importantly, you and your family will share healthy, natural, in season meals throughout the season.

Members purchase shares of the farms harvest before the production season begins.
The share money goes towards the operating costs of the farm.
Members receive weekly shares of the farms harvest for 20 weeks/10 weeks for bi-weekly half share members.

Where do I pick up my vegetables each week?

Members may choose to pick up their shares at the farm in Sears on Monday between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. or on Fridays at the Big Rapids Farmers Market between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. (There is a $35 annual delivery fee for Big Rapids pick up.)

What are the risks and rewards?

We strive to provide an appealing and ample supply of vegetables each week, but since nature has no guarantee we cannot offer any either. You will be experiencing the ups and downs of vegetable farming. If a crop is plentiful this year, you will receive lots of it; if the crops are "slim picking", you will receive less.

How much will I receive each week?

Members can choose to purcahse a full share or bi-weekly half share. A full share will be sufficient to feed a large family (4+) for one week. A half share will be sufficent to feed a smaller family (2+) for two weeks. A full share is approximately 1 bushel basket and aa half share is approximately 1 bushel basket every other week. (1 bushel is about the szie of a round laundry basket.) Typically there are 8-12 different vegetables each week. The list of contents change throughout the growning season based on which ones are ready to be harvested. You will enjoy a wide variety of vegetables that are grown seasonally in your area. The first couple of weeks of the season are lighter-providing mainly leafy greens and salad vegetables. The quantity and weight will increase throughout the growing season as more crops mature.

How much does it cost?

Full Share $500/season
Bi-weekly Half Share $300/season

If you are interested in receiving produce weekly, we encourage you to find a friend to split a full share with. This will save you $50 each and enable you both to receive fresh produce weekly.

We encourage you to pay for your entire share up front. Pre-payment is important so we can plan for the 2011 season. For those unable to pay in full, a non-refundable deposit of 50% is required to secure your membership. Final payment is due on or before March 31, 2011. If shares are still availabe after March 31st you will have the opportunity to purchase the shares at the following price: Full Share $550/season Bi-weekly Half Share $350/season.

Morgan Composting Brings CSA to the Greater Evart Area

Welcome to our web log! You can keep up to date with the CSA and track the progress as we gear up for our first production season. We’re eagerly counting down the days until go-time. Take a look at our progress

The fields are being cleared, tilled, and topped with Morgan Composting’s own designer compost. We have approximately ten acres tilled so far.
Garlic is on its way. Garlic is planted in November and covered with straw through the winter. Depending on the weather, garlic is usually ready to harvest mid-July.
You may have seen us in Evart lately selling produce near the Real Estate One office on the corner of US10 and River Street. We’re trying to move some of the produce we’ve grown this year. Be sure to stop by Saturdays to get a preview of what we have to offer. See Photo.
